WAZA

NAGE-WAZA


The set of techniques on which tori uses his/er hands, hip and legs for execution a throw  to uke only when tori  posses standing body position is known as Nage waza. Standing body position refers the two knees mat untou-
ched body posture. The Nage waza is categorized into two branches. They are:
a) Tachi-waza                                              b) Sutemi-waza.

a)   Tachi-waza :-
The set of techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution a throw from standing straight body position and only uke touches the mat when felled is known as tachi-waza. The tori maintenances his/er actual body balance but make his opponent fully or partially fall in the mat. This waza implies the “giving the way-fall” as its technical philosophy.
It is further categorized into three branches. They are:
i. Te-waza.                                          ii. Koshi-waza.                                    iii. Ashi-waza.
           
           i. Te-waza = When a tori uses his/er body parts primarily  hand/s for execution a throw to uke  is known as Te-waza. It is the set of hand used techniques. Some common techniques of Te-waza are listed as below:

  • Ippon-seoi-nage
  • Morte-seoi-nage.
  • Seoi-otoshi.
  • Kata-guruma.
  • Tai-otoshi.
  • Uki-otoshi.
  • Kuchiki-taeshi.
  • Kibusu-gaeshi.
  • Morte-gari.
  • Obi-otoshi.
  • Obi-tori-gaeshi.
  • Sumi-otoshi.
  • Sukui-nage.
  • Yama-arashi.
  • Ko-uchi-gaeshi.
  • Uchi-mata-sukashi.
  
          ii. Koshi-waza = When a tori uses his/er body parts primarily  hip for execution a throw to uke  is known as Koshi waza. It is the set of hip used techniques. Some common techniques of koshi-waza are listed as below:

  • Hane-goshi.
  • Harai-goshi.
  • Koshi-guruma.
  • O-goshi.
  • Tsuri-goshi.
  • Ushiro-goshi.
  • Utsuri-goshi.
  • Tsurukomi-goshi.
  • Sode-tsurukomi-goshi.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             iii. Ashi-waza = When a tori uses his/er body parts primarily leg/s for execution a throw to uke  is known as ashi-waza. It is the set of legs used techniques. Some common techniques of ashi-waza are listed as below:  

  • Ashi-guruma..
  • De-ashi-barrai ( or harai ) 
  • Hane-goshi-gaishi.
  • Harai-goshi-gaishi.
  • Harai-tsurikomi-ashi.
  • Hiza-guruma.
  • Ko-soto-gake.
  • Ko-soto-gari.
  • Ko-uchi-gari.
  • O-guruma.
  • Okuri-ashi-barai ( or harai )
  • O-soto-gaeshi.
  • O-soto-gari.
  • O-soto-guruma.
  • O-soto-otoshi.
  • O-uchi-gaeshi.
  • Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi.
  • Tsubame-gaeshi.
  • Uchi-mata.
  • Uchi-mata-gaeshi.

b) Sutemi-waza :-
The set of techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution a throw from standing straight body position but the both, tori and uke touches the mat when felled is known as sutemi-waza. The tori sacrifices his/er actual body balance and make their body fully or partially fall in the mat. This waza implies the “sacrificing the way-fall” as its technical philosophy.
It is further categorized into two branches. They are:

           i. Ma-sutemi-waza = When a tori uses his/er body parts for execution the horizontal throw to uke  is known as ma-sutemi-waza The horizontal throw means the both wings of uke to be mat touched and fall in straight line. Some common techniques of Ma-sutemi-waza are listed as below:

  • Hikikomi-gaeshi.
  • Sumi-gaeshi.
  • Tawara-gaeshi.
  • Tomoe-nage.
  • Ura-nage.
  • Tomoe-gaeshi.
  • Makikomi-gaeshi.


             ii. Yoko-sutemi-waza = When a tori uses his/er body parts for execution the vertical throw to uke  is known as   yoko-sutemi waza. The vertical throw means only one wing of uke to be mat touched and fall in random line.
Some common techniques of ashi-waza are listed as below:

  • Daki-wakare.
  • Hane-makikomi.
  • Harai-makikomi.
  • Ko-uchi-makikomi.
  • Soto-makikomi.
  • O-soto-makikomi.
  • Tani-otoshi.
  • Uchi-makikomi.
  • Uchi-mata-makikomi.
  • Uki-waza.
  • Yoko-gake.
  • Yoko-guruma.
  • Yoko-otoshi.
  • Yoko-wakare.



KATAME-WAZA
The set of techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution ground grasp, strangle and joints-lock to uke only when tori and uke posses sitting body position is known as katame-waza. Here the sitting body position refers the two knees of the both players mat touched body posture. Katame-waza is also called Ne-waza in some tongue. Simply it is the set of ground techniques.
The katame-waza has been categorize into three branches. They are:

i. Osae-komi-waza                              ii. Shime-waza                                     iii. Kansetsu-waza


i. Osae-komi-waza :- The set of ground techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution ground grasp and grip the uke tight to touch both the arm wings on mat only when tori and uke posses sitting body position is known as osae-komi-waza. The body position should be either full or semi lying or simply two knees of the both players mat touched body posture. Simply it is the set of ground hold techniques.
Some of the techniques of Osae-komi-waza are:

  • Hon-kesa-gatame.
  • Khuzure-kesa-gatame.
  • Ushiro-kesa-gatame.
  • Makure-kesa-gatame.
  • Kami-shiho-gatame.
  • Kuzure-kami-shiho-gatame.
  • Yoko-siho-gatame.
  • Kuzure-yoko-siho-gatame.
  • Kata-gatame.
  • Tate-shiho-gatame.

ii. Shime-waza :- The set of ground techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution of strangle type of lock to the opponent on mat only when tori and uke posses sitting body position is known as shime-waza. The body position should be either full or semi lying or simply two knees of the both players  at mat touched body posture. Simply it is the set of ground neck-lock techniques.
Some of the techniques of Osae-komi-waza are:

  • Hadaka-jime.
  • Kata-ha-jime.
  • Okuri-eri-jime.
  • Sode-guruma-jime.
  • Gyaku-juji-jime.
  • Nami-juji-jime.
  • Kata-juji-jime.
  • Kata-te-jime.
  • Ryote-te-jime.
  • Sankaku-jime.
  • Tsukkomi-jime.
  • Jigo-u-jime.

 iii. Kansetsu-waza :- The set of ground techniques on which tori uses his/er body parts for execution of lock of the joints to the opponent on mat only when tori and uke posses sitting body position is known as kansetsu -waza. The joint lock should be applicable only to the hands and legs bone-joints. The body position should be either full or semi lying or simply two knees of the both players at mat touched body posture. Simply it is the set of ground joints-lock techniques.
Some of the techniques of kansetsu-waza are:

  • Ude-gatame.
  • Ude-garami.
  • Juji-gatame.
  • Waki-gatame.
  • Hara-gatame.
  • Te-gatame.
  • Hiza-gatame.
  • Ashi-gatame.
  • Ashi-garami.
  • Sankaku-gatame.
